ACCESS

Access by Foot

From the yellow tactile paving and the ramp at the junction of Kifisias Ave. and Agisilaou Str., at the connection with the Ministry of Civil Protection, we cross Agisilaou Str. Vehicles come from the left. We step onto the opposite pavement, where there is no tactile paving, and continue straight ahead. We keep to the left edge of the pavement, alongside Kifisias Ave., passing the metal bollards we encounter.

We reach a perpendicular road, an entrance to the car park, cross it, step onto a small pedestrian island, continue straight and cross the exit of the car park. On the opposite pavement we turn right, find the inner edge of the pavement, which consists of a low wall and shrubs, turn left and keep it on our right. Shortly it turns right and we follow it onto a marble surface. We keep the wall on our right until the opening of a ramp with railings. Here we turn left, leaving the ramp and railings behind us, and continue until we find railings again. There, we turn right and keep them on our left to descend the staircase.

This is the main staircase leading to the shopping centre, thus the Museum. There is also a security guard here who can provide assistance. We descend 16 steps without colour-contrast strips. At the bottom, we turn left, find the wooden flooring, turn right and follow it straight ahead. We pass all kiosks on our left. We arrive at the main entrance of the shopping centre.

Drop-off – Pick-up:

At the rear entrance of the shopping centre, from Pittara Str., passenger drop-off and pick-up can take place after the security booth. This area is connected to the Museum via lifts. We step up onto the pavement and find, diagonally to the right or diagonally to the left, one of the lifts and go up to Level 0. Next to the lifts is the entrance to the shopping centre and, further to the left, the entrance to the Museum.

Parking:

  • The shopping centre provides 38 accessible parking spaces distributed across 7 different parking zones (blue, orange, yellow, purple, red, green, grey), varying in size to accommodate wheelchair-accessible vans.
  • There is accessible space for electric vehicles.
  • Access to the main shopping area is via escalators or lifts.
  • Entrance A leads to the grey zone, which is closer to the Museum entrance, with 5 accessible parking spaces and displayed maps indicating their location.
  • Parking is free for disabled vehicles with blue badge. To activate this, on your first visit go to the Info Desk on the ground floor to register your vehicle (blue badge and registration). On subsequent visits, both here and at partner shopping centres, the barrier will open automatically.

By Public Transport

From alighting, we find the stairs and descend to the ground-level part of the station, inside a tunnel. We continue straight ahead, find another 6 steps and descend them. At their base there is tactile paving with moderate colour contrast with the floor. It leads us to the ticket validation machines. After the machines, we follow the tactile paving to a junction with options straight ahead, left and right. This is a complex station, so depending on which platform we arrived at and which stairs we used, our choice will be either right or left. Our goal is to head towards OAKA, outside the ground-level tunnel.

If we turn the wrong way, after about 15 meters the tactile paving stops completely (at the Station Master’s office), so we can turn around and head towards the exit from there.

From the Station Master’s office, we take the tactile paving with moderate colour contrast and pass the first two junctions (with options straight ahead, left and right), which come respectively from the platform towards Piraeus and from the platform towards Kifisia. We continue straight ahead and exit the ground-level tunnel. There, the tactile paving becomes wider. Shortly, there is a junction with options left (dead end) and straight ahead, where we continue. We are now in the outdoor area of OAKA.

At the next junction with options left, straight and right, we go left. We are now moving under the Arch.

We continue straight for a long distance, passing all junctions we encounter, six in total, which lead either left (dead end) or right (Wall of Nations and swimming pools). At the end of the Arch, the tactile paving turns right without a junction. We follow it and it leads us towards the Wall of Nations.

At the 1st junction with an option to the left, we continue straight ahead. At the 2nd junction with options right and left, we go left towards the Olympic Stadium. We pass 3 junctions with a left option, continuing straight each time. At the 4th junction, with options left and right, we go right towards the Olympic Stadium.

From there, at the 1st junction with options right and straight ahead, we continue straight. The tactile paving leads us left without a junction. It now passes in front of the entrances to the Olympic Stadium, which are on our right.

From here we follow this route:

  • At the 1stjunction, with options right (Gates P1–35) and straight ahead, we continue straight.
  • At the 2nd, 3rdand 4th junctions, with options right towards stadium gates and straight ahead, we continue straight.
  • At the 5thjunction, with options straight ahead (towards Spyrou Loui Street and the lower side of OAKA) and left towards the Museum, we take the left.

After two changes in direction and one long straight section, the tactile paving ends. We continue straight until we find a wall, turn left and keep it on our right. When the wall ends, we turn right, continue straight and find 5 steps without colour-contrast strips and with handrails on both sides.

We go up them and reach a footbridge over Pittara Str. There are handrails on both sides which we can follow. At the end, passing a bin and the lift entrance, we find the glass entrance doors of the shopping centre. Inside and on the left is the Museum’s entrance.

Total Distance: ~1.300 m.

Route via Underground Passage

We step up onto the pavement, move straight ahead towards the inner side of the pavement and, once we find soil, we turn left and keep it on our right. The soil becomes a low wall which we follow and it leads us to 5 steps, without colour-contrast strips or handrails, which we descend. We move diagonally to the right and find a downward sloping surface which we follow. We can keep the wall on our left and follow it. It leads us to an underground passage beneath the avenue.

At the end of it, we continue keeping the wall on our left and pass between low concrete bollards. We pass through another short tunnel and emerge into the outdoor area of the shopping centre. We keep the wall on our left, which gives way to planters with plants. We follow them to the left. On our left there is an open playground with soft flooring; we remain on the marble surface. Shortly, we find railings on our left indicating the start of a ramp towards the road and, continuing, there is another ramp towards the second playground. We pass them and keep the wall on our left.

When it ends, we go straight ahead for a short distance until we find wooden flooring. We take it to the right and follow it straight ahead, passing all kiosks on our left. It leads us to the main entrance of the shopping centre. There we can ask for directions to the Info Desk, which is straight ahead. There we will find information regarding the Museum.

We step up onto the pavement and continue towards its far end. There are two cases:

  • Either the bus has dropped us on a pedestrian island, in which case moving towards the far end we will soon step down again onto the road (a small service lane forming a recess for the stop), we cross it and step up onto the opposite pavement where we find the stop.
  • Or the bus has dropped us in the recess, in which case moving towards the far end we will find the stop.

In both cases, once we find the stop, we turn left and find the edge of the pavement, which we keep on our left. Kifisias Ave. is on our left and we move in the same direction as traffic. At the junction with Diagora Str., where vehicles come from the right, we cross diagonally to the right.

Once we step onto the opposite pavement, we turn left, find its edge and keep it on our left. On our right is the Civil Protection building. At the junction with Agisilaou Str., we find the ramp and cross. Vehicles come from the left. We step onto the pavement and move towards the far end. We will encounter illegally parked motorcycles and bypass them on the left. There we find a staircase which we descend.

The staircase has double handrails on both sides and consists of 7 steps, a landing, another 7 steps, and at the end we find a wall and must turn left and immediately right where there are another 5 steps. There are no colour-contrast strips.

We keep the wall on our right, pass low concrete bollards and enter a ground-level tunnel. At this point, we leave the wall behind us and cross to the opposite side of the tunnel. We find the opposite wall and keep it on our left.

Total Distance: ~350 m.

*In this route, boarding and disembarking conditions, as well as the path to the staircase, are considered unsafe, therefore it is not recommended.

We step down onto the road, turn around and carefully cross Pittara Str. It is a moderately busy road with two directions of traffic and no pedestrian crossing. We pass between the parallel parked vehicles, step up onto the pavement and find the wall on the inner side. We turn right and keep it on our left. At the end of the pavement, we cross the roadway (this is the entrance to the shopping centre car park) and, once we reach the opposite side, before stepping onto the pavement, we turn left, continue straight ahead on the roadway until we find a pavement and step up onto it. Diagonally to the left we will find the left lift. We are on Level -2 and we select Level 0. Once we exit, we turn left and follow the wall, which leads us to the glass entrance doors. Inside, on our left, lies the entrance of the Museum.

Total Distance: ~30 m.

ENTRANCE

  • Main Entrance:

The main entrance of the shopping centre is located on Kifisias Ave., at the end of the wooden flooring, with permanently open double doors. There is security staff present who can escort visitors to the Info Desk.

Independently, we can reach the Info Desk as follows: After the double glass doors, we continue straight ahead with a slightly diagonal direction to the right. Once we find the shop windows, we keep them on our right. When they end, we continue diagonally to the right and find the Info Desk.

  • Rear Entrance:

The rear entrance is connected to the outdoor area of OAKA and its tactile paving via a footbridge with 5 steps, with double-height handrails on both sides and no anti-slip strips. On the footbridge, we keep either the right or left handrail and follow it. At the end, passing a rubbish bin and the lift entrance, we find the glass manual entrance doors. We enter and follow the wall on our left, which leads us to the internal entrance of the Museum. Great care is needed as, next to the external entrance, there is an overhead obstacle, a diagonal metal beam, so we must first locate it and find the point where it rises high enough for us to pass safely underneath.

We locate the wall on the left again, follow it as it turns right, and it leads us to glass doors marking the entrance to the Museum. We enter and head diagonally to the right to find the reception desk.
